haven't you read ab's answer to your quesiton on 28th October.
the answer says both.
when I said guy I didn't refer to any gender. I used it to mean person.
besides I say 'hi guys 'to a group of my friends including boys and girls. |

You asked WHO could fail the exam, as implied in the sample sentence that you gave....and i said....BOTH COULD FAIL,
i said this because YOUR sample question implied this
but THE WORD either means ONE OR THE OTHER....NOT BOTH _________________ ab2146 |

Let me ask you more more question.
1) Is either ticket available?
2) Are both ticket available?
Question: Are the the same? (If not, can you give me any simple examples?)

Well, suppose you have got two tickets, one is acailable and the other not.
and the answer to your question is :
1)Is either ticket available? Yes!
2) Are both ticket available? No!
So, the word either here means one or the other not both, either ticket meas any one of two tickets
But either doesn't only mean one or the other, sometimes it means One and the other; each
like either side/ hand etc means both sides/ hands
And for instance: I usually drink either coke or beer.
It means sometimes I drink coke, sometimes I drink beer, but I have drunk both of them.
I can give you more examples
Which movie do you want to see? Either of them. Either here means one or the other, any one of two. Because you can't see both movies at the same time. you just choose one of them, it doesn't matter which one
The thief was put in the police car with a policeman on either side of him.
either here means one and the other, a policeman is on left and the other is on right.
So do you understand it this time? _________________ George Bernard Shaw once wrote: There are two tragedies in life. One is to lose your heart's desire, the other is to gain it.

Well, in Suzhou, it doesn't often snow at this time. But now I feel cold too. Even though, I won't turn on the air conditioner until I can't take it anymore.
Though snowing means cold, but I do hope it will be snowing during the coming Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
BTW, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
