The above is what I listened to in the 'Catch the Word' show on New Zealand TV. I can not understand 'stand up' in the sentence. I think that "This stands for children as an American word." is correct instead of "This stands up as an American word for children." But I wonder if I am right. Can you give me a hand?

| "stands up as" does not make sense. I wonder if it is a special New Zealand phrase? |
