(1) They speak English in Canada.
(2) English is spoken (by them) in Canada.
What is the difference between (1) and (2)? The same meaning?
I am looking forward to hearing from someone. |

Sentence #1 is an example of active voice.
Sentence #2 is an example of passive voice.
The difference in meaning is for me it is a difference of focus. Sentence #1 is concerned with people; sentence #2 is concerned with the language. So it would depend on the context for me as to which I would use.
Hope that helps - Kristi _________________ "That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much." R.L. Stevenson |
