Do you say "on the sofa" or "in the sofa?" Although a sofa may have arms, it is treated like a bed, so you would use "on the sofa." Am I right?

I am sitting on the sofa, is correct.

Sometimes you find coins and things that people have dropped down the back of the sofa, or even in the sofa.
