Hi, everyone!
Is it okay to say, "Britain allowed India's independence in 1947", instead of saying "Britain allowed India its independence in 1947"?
thank you,

| Hello, Your sentences are both acceptable, the first one having a direct object; the second having an indirect object before the direct object. (The "its" is not necessary, just fluff.) But I would not use the verb allow, but grant, instead. Goodbye. |
