Which is grammatically correct ?
① What is fairly an interesting story. / That is a fairly interesting story.
② He is quite a rich man. / He is a quite rich man.
③ That is rather a nice dress. / That is a rather nice dress. |
(1) == b is. NB- "What is an interesting story?" could be a question, although an odd one. Maybe the context could give it meaning.
(2) -- a is. Good question. This is I think just a peculiar structure.... it's not unusual to have the adverb immediately precede the noun, as in "That's a very pretty dress" or "We've gotten ourselves into an incredibly hairy situation."
(3) -- b is, although a is also idiomatically correct imho but the nuance is different. a also sounds like something our British cousins would say; it's a bit fancy for us colonists. _________________ "This is insolence up with which I will not put."
