Hello,
Is it correct to say:
At the beginning we were a little bit intimidated, but then we began to build up ourselves by confirming each other.
(ourselves refers to a basketball TEAM)
I think there should be a nicer way to express the second part of the sentence. I'd really be grateful for some assistance.

Try:
At first, we were a little hesitant and reserved. But then, we got to know each other, and together we built team confidence.
