Can we change "there is" below into "there are"? If yes, what is a difference in meaning?

It is often said that diplomatic interpreting is one of the most dangerous professions there is.

Hi hiromichi,

It should be "are".

The sentence really says:

It is often said that diplomatic interpreting is one of the most dangerous professions there are (out there).

One of the most dangerous professions that are out there is diplomatic interpreting.

"There are" is actually not necessary. I would say:

It is often said that diplomatic interpreting is one of the most dangerous professions.

Or,

It is often said that diplomatic interpreting is a dangerous profession.
