1.Swimming at 5 a.m. is crazy for me.
2.Swimming at 5 a.m. is crazy to me.
Am I right that:
#1 is if you are asking me to go swimming with you at 5 a.m. in the morning, I am not going.
#2 is if you are asking my opinion about your going swimming at 5 a.m. in the morning, I think it is crazy.

1. Yes, but I'd be less specific about the exact meaning. (e.g., I don't even go to bed until 2:00. I can't believe I'm doing this!) The point is that "for" makes it a statement about me.
2. Yes, the statement is no longer about me, but about the idea.
(I think in #2 it would be more natural to use "seems" rather than "is.") |
