Apart from adolescents, young learners, young students, what else could be closely in meaning to teenagers or teenage students?

You could call them middle schoolers or high schoolers, depending on what grade they're in.

I think in Germany they call them Halbstarke which I think means "half strengths."

Youths, juveniles, teens --these are a few others that I can think of..."juveniles" is usually used by police/law enforcement, as in "the driver of the stolen car was a juvenile."
