What kind of number is a sheer number?
The U.S. Air Force strives to provide the United States with air and space superiority. The air part is straightforward. No other air force has anything close to the technical superiority or sheer number of U.S. planes. _________________ Hiromichi |

The statement means that, looking at numbers alone, the U.S. Air Force has the advantage of having many more planes than any other country's Air Force. (A "sheer number" is not a particular kind of number.) |
