Razz

Hello, students in or from Singapore!

Would you tell us, students and teachers of Iwakuni Commercial High
School in Yamaguchi, Japan, about examples of popular dishes in Singapore?

We were going to Singapore this month on a school trip, but it was
cancelled. However, we still would like to learn about food in
Singapore.

Would you tell us about one or two examples of popular dish?
If you often eat foreign food, would you introduce an example
of popular foreign food you eat in Singapore?

Thank you very much.

With love,
Aska

Hi Aska,

I'm sorry to hear that your trip was cancelled. I visited Singapore back two years ago, and tasted several of the wonderful cuisines that they are famous for. They were: Laksa, which is rice noodles cooked in a coconut curry gravy with shrimp, egg and chicken; Chilli crab: crabs cooked in a tomato-chilli based gravy (this was indeed really delicious); and last but not least, Nasi lemak: coconut rice served with omelette, anchovies, cucumber and chilli paste. The food is really diverse, due to the various ethnic groups that can be seen in Singapore, and as a result, we need to spend lots of time to taste them all Smile.

Hope this helps you,
Polaris

Polaris, thank you very much for taking your time to write the reply!
I am sorry it took time to write this.
We were on a school trip to Tokyo last week, so I didn't have time to
read your answer.

Thank you for answering about the food you usually eat, too.
I am going to print out your answers and show them to my students.

I was surprised to learn that you eat so many kinds of foreign food!
There are many kinds of foreign food restaurants in big cities like
Tokyo, but we don't have so many in rural area like our city called
Iwakuni.

I like foreign food such as French, Italian, Chinese, Korean
and so on. I used to preferred them to Japanese traditional food.
But since I learned about Macrobiotics, I started to like Japanese traditional food, too. Have you heard of Macrobiotics? I hear this diet
has become popular among people who are interested in LOHAS or
general healthy diet in the USA, too. It is a kind of diet for physical and mental health mainly based on organic brown rice and vegetables.
A Japanese man called Mr. Kushi introduced this diet to USA and other countries. I am not a vegetarian yet, but I like the idea of the influence of good food on physical and mental health and I like trying Macrobiotic recipes because they let me feel satisfied with the appriciation of the lives
of the organic foods and the great effort by the farmers who took good care of them, considering the health of the Earth.

If you are interested in the idea, would you read the websites below?

http://www.macrobiotics.co.uk/

As for the Singaporean dishes, they sound very delicious! I would like to visit Singapore someday and try them. My students will be glad to receive the information about Singaopore who really visited the country.
One student is going to make a presentation with Power Point including your information. I am going to show it to students in my classes. Thank you very much for your cooperation! Very Happy

Aska

Sorry for the late reply. I had been busy with my schoolwork in the past weeks.

I am sure you had a wonderful trip. I would like to visit Japan someday...

About macrobiotics, Wow! this is indeed very interesting. I am always trying to maintain a good eating habit, and this is going to help me greatly. They even provide some delicious recipes on the web site too. I cannot wait to try them out! Thank you so much for telling me this! Very Happy
