What does "put off" mean in the context below.
"Colton's bushy beard, boisterous manner, and overall Falstaffian personality endeared him to as many people as it put off."
HW
I am learning a lot from Q&As of other people. Thanks. _________________ Hiromichi |

It means that his beard and mannerisms made him seem unapproachable.
People would make a judgement of him based upon his beard/outgoing personality without really knowing him and decide that based upon what they see, they don't want to get to know him any better |
