Hello everyone.
Which, #1 or #2, is more appropriate for the blank in the passage below?
A stampede broke out early Saturday outside a stadium where thousands had lined up to watch a popular game show, killing at least 73 people and injuring 359 others.
Leny Sabayco said she lost consciousness after being pressed against the stadium gate and woke up later under a pile of people. Under me was dead person, beside me ( ) and there was another dead above me, she said.
1. there was another dead
2. was another dead
Best regards,

"dead" can't be used alone to mean "corpse" or "dead body." You can also use "body," "dead man," or "dead woman." (or dead boy, girl, child...)
I would re-write the sentence like this:
"There was a dead person underneath me, another dead person beside me, and yet another dead person above me." (the "yet another" adds intensity, since repeating "another" doesn't really add anything to the sentence.) |
