Hi students,

I've made some VALENTINE'S DAY puzzles for practising grammar and improving vocabulary. Find them here:

http://www.grammarmancomic.com/romance.html

Hope you enjoy them

Brian

Dear Brian,

I just racked my brain to guess the puzzle...but I just get 6 words of 10. and I am not sure whether they are right.

I get 1st, 2nd, 5th, 7th, 8th,9th.

I can't work out the rest of words anyway. I guess it's because I know little about valentine, and my vocabulary is awful.

For example, the 3rd one: a nickname for your lover. what kind of nickname is a western lover supposed to have? In China, we always call our lovers "fool", "maniac", "psychopath", and so on. what about western lovers" Laughing

Now I am about to PM you tp tell you my guesses.

Hi Redrose,

LOL! The answer to that one isn't psychopath!! It's sweetheart.

I've sent you a private message with the rest of the answers. Thanks for trying the puzzle and sorry I made it difficult.

Brian

Brian,

I think you are spending too much time plugging your web page.

This is pure advertising, though subtle, and I think it should stop.

I am sure I am not alone in this thought.

Moderators, please note.

I don't think it should stop, after all, Brian isn't advertising something like gym shoes, T-shirt. instead, he is offering us something interesting by which we can practice our English. what's this forum for? it's learning english!! and Brian is doing a great job!!

I don't think Mod would delete such a useful topic.

Fortunately, Dave has more ideas what this forum should be than Clonc dose.

Yes. Bud, I have many ideas and I am not afraid to express my opinion.

And I have many ideas on what this forum should not be.

And Red Rose. I am not sure of the extent Dave influences this forum (or any of his forums). Try writing to him and see what happens. Last year Lorikeet wrote, "I sent an e-mail to Dave about some people's concerns, and I asked him what, if anything, he wanted to do about it. He hasn't responded to me, so I haven't done anything. I don't know what he or anyone else did. I was waiting for some direction, since it's his site."

I am sure Dave is a good guy, but he is somewhat remote, and I do not believe he has many ideas about this forum. I have never seen any opinions expressed by him. Have you?

everytime when I wrote Dave email about what happened on the forum, like some technical problem, he always replied my email and explained why it looked like that.

For example, I once told him by email that this forum need a mod who should often visit and moderate this forum, he replied my email and he set Lori as another mod. I am sure he has more ideas about this forum. he dosen't look like God. I mean, he isn't so remote.

Hi RedRose

Answer number 4 is 'cupid' (the little angel or cherub who fires arrows at people to make them fall in love).

Number 11 is 'attractive'

(now take the numbered letters and fill in the quote at the bottom of the page to get some valentine advice)

Clonc - sorry if I've been annoying you be promoting my website on this forum. My site is very new (I only started it about six weeks ago) so I'm doing my best to make students and teachers aware of it. I'm hoping that I eventually won't need to promote it at all, and people will know about it through word of mouth.

However, I never come here solely to plug it - I'm always offering some kind of resource that will hopefully be useful to students. I often answer students' grammar questions too.

Also - it's not like I'm selling anything or making money. Maybe in the future I'll try to sell products from my site, but for now EVERYTHING there is 100% free. In fact, I've spent over five months putting together all of that free stuff!

None of the moderators have said anything about my posts, but the last thing I want to do is upset other forum users.

Brian

I didn't get it. which forum? you are not upsetting anyone! instead, you are helping us improve our english!! I am grateful to you!

In the future maybe you will try to sell some products from your website, that's ok. as long as you don't sell them on Dave's.

In some Chinese website, people are not allowed to sell condoms, I don't know why.

PS: cupid is a strange word to me Wink I just checked my dictionary to know it. in China, we call it "QiuBiTe", not cupid. no wonder I didn't know it.

BTW, Brian, this part of your website is very funny
http://www.grammarmancomic.com/3a.html. is that you who reads those lines? very fair-sounding! I hope I can speak english as fluently as you do in the future!
