Is sentence a) correct ?

a) Generally, most of the students I spoke to think that there is offered a wide range of interesting films.

For me it would sound more natural to write:
b) Generally, most of the students I spoke to think that a wide range of interesting films are being offered.

What do you think?

but would prefer ' is being offered '.
