i too agree with both of you. but i think reading also in wa y will help us to improve our speaking skills.. like both of you im also wont use english when im talking with my frenz..coz i feel that its too formal..and it does not show our intimacy.. in my point of view reading and speaking will help us to improve our language. reading materiald such as news paper will help us to improve our vocabularly.. if you have wide range of vocab then only you can talk easily. apart from this confidence also important to be a good speaker..if you confident enough then only you can deliberate your points and opinions freely.. In my opinion there are no other way to improve our English unless we encourage ourselves to interact with others in English. Yet we must not feel shy or discouraged to talk in English with our friends because in Malaysian culture , Malaysians who use English in their daily conversations are labelled as `showing off `. They are also labelled as ` too westernised ` for the reason they speak mostly English with their family , friends , relatives and so on . Another interesting thing but quite sensitive issue too where many of us believe in that use of English as trying to be like the Whites . We must lead our minds to positive path and encourage the use of English language not only with our friends but with everyone in order to prevent from left out in this ICT world which conquered by the universal language , English....
