I think that it's a good idea, however, I also think that a non-native speaker who is fluent in the English language and has studied it intensely for years may also be a good candidate to teach English, maybe even more than a native speaker. Just because we grow up speaking English does not mean that we make the best teachers.
In the same way, people who play the piano and people who teach to play piano are different. some people can naturally play the piano and some people can only teach piano, but they cannot necessarily play well.
