Is there any difference in the meanings of the sentences below?
1. Go for it, Tom!
2. Go to it, Tom!
3. Go it, Tom! |

The first one, "Go for it, Tom!" sounds like something someone would say to urge Tom to try and succeed in something. It sounds very normal to me.
For example:
Tom: I would really like to apply for that job, but I'm nervous.
Dan: Go for it, Tom! You have nothing to lose.
The second one, "Go to it Tom!" sounds a little strange, but you could probably make a story to go with it. If the meaning was "start doing it" then we could use "Get to it, Tom!". This one sounds like you want Tom to go to something, as in walk over to it. It would sound more natural to me if you said something like "Go to her, Tom!" as though Tom's girlfriend needed him and you were telling him to go to her. "It" makes it unnatural to me.
The third one, "Go it" isn't really English to me. |
