can i have your opinion about "why are people increasingly keeping pets?"

In most developed places, perhaps for company as our fast lives makes it harder to keep friendships. In not so developed places, a pet can be a symbol of status, that you've progressed somewhat that's why you can afford an expensive dog, cat or something. Whatever it is, having a pet is less complicated than having to maintain friendship which can be complex at times. And there's something very therapeutic and comforting to have a lovely dog or cat or chimp (?)
