Hello,

I wasn't sure which one was right between "knock on the door" and "knock at the door" but found out they are both in the dictionary.

Is there a difference between them? Is it just a personal preference to use one or the other? Could it be a regional difference or something else?

It may be very simple for a native speaker, but it's really puzzling for me.

I would say that they are the same. "Knock on the door" seems to be more common but I hear "knock at the door" sometimes too. They both mean the same thing and seem to be used in the same situations.
