Why didn't you ask the people who said it was a bad word what word they were referring to? Laughing

If you REALLY want to know, send me a pm and I'll *whisper* it back to you.

By the way you've copied the quote incorrectly. It should be, "The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four human beings suffers from some form of mental illness." Americans don't have a monopoly on mental illness. Wink

Christina has actually quoted it right. It is a humourous quote attributed to Rita Mae Brown:

http://brainyquotes.com/quotes/quotes/r/ritamaebro107591.html

but it could have been based on facts seen here from The Whitehouse:

http://clinton4.nara.gov/WH/Work/060599.html

I suppose it could also be applied in general to other nations too but look for the facts first. Anyway, what's the saying about "lies, damned lies and statistics"?

As for the "C" word, it's probably the most disgusting word in the English language, although that may be a cultural thing. Look it up in a dictionary Wink

I'd rather not discuss it here, but you can go to http://www.urbandictionary.com and look up "the c word" or any other bad/slang English word that you can think of.

A word of caution: urbandictionary entries are written by random people from the Internet, so they aren't 100% correct or reliable.

Christina pm'd me and I told her what the c word is. Laughing

LucentShade - I googled "c word" and was given a link to an entry in Wikipedia. How times have changed! Shocked Laughing

KazAv - My comment about the quote was a joke! I thought the winking icon and adding "Americans don't have a monopoly on mental illness" would make that obvious. I'm sorry I caused you to research the quote unnecessarily. Sad

Isn't communicating via the internet fun? Rolling Eyes

How you said it didn't make it seem that way as you told her she'd quoted it wrongly. It pays to make meanings very clear especially where students whose native language isn't English are concerned; moreso in writing, where we don't have the advantage of non-verbal communication to back up our verbal meanings. Just shows you, even native speakers like myself can pick someone else's meaning up wrongly from time to time Laughing The Internet sure is great for communication!

It's ok Harmony. Doesn't harm to research every now and again Smile
