I mean it doesn't help you to get a job or anything these days, does it?
students had already been tired of thirteen(or more) years of education and they knew they still end up unemployed.Maybe students can prefer to take their chances than sit in the classroom for another four years or more and maybe do something different like going abroad.

What is your opinion about this?

Oh university...can't live with it, can't do without it Smile

A university degree doesn't guarantee you to get a job, at least in Turkey it doesn't. At that point it might seem needless to spend 4 years knowing that you have the risk of becoming unemployed after graduation. But of course there is so much beyond that.

Universities are not, or they should not be, about getting a well-paid job. They are about getting professional education and expanding your knowledge about a topic of your interest which is definitely a wonderful feeling. Whether it be finance, computer science, physics, language education or fine arts, it is important to have a higher degree education. Yeah, the educational system in Turkey sucks and most of the people don't attend universities for the purpose of "knowledge" but just for getting a diploma so they can find a job, but that's not to say the universities are useless. I, for example, have been studying maths for years and I really like getting to know so much about this field of science. I like maths so it is definitely a priceless experience for me getting a university degree education on mathematics. Moreover you don't have to focus entirely on your department. You are available to have many different courses as theater, cinema, learning a new foreign language, photography, all kind of sports, etc...

Besides they offer you a variety of different options about improving your social skills as well as educational preferences. Student clubs, sports activities, conferences, tons of different student organizations, the life on campus...you get to know so many new people which helps you to change your view on life.

Of course it is an excellent experience going abroad for any reason and knowing new cultures/people but still I think getting an education is important no matter what.

Good response. I agree. A traditional liberal university education should be about expanding your mind and exposing you to ideas and ways of thinking you could not normally get in your primary and secondary education. Though my major was engineering, I enjoyed taking extra classes in literature and arts. Sadly the politicalization of the university campus has deteriorated the value of a traditional liberal education and turned colleges for many students into mere vocational schools.

Nevertheless, whether or not it helps you get a job (that may vary by country), a college education will statistically help you get a better paying job when you finally do become employed.
