Tetsuya didn't hear the doorbell when his visitors arrived, because he (has been taking/ was taking/ took/ has taken) a shower.
The answer is 'was taking."
(Question)
What if I choose 'took'???
If 'took' is OK, what is the difference???

Hello S99
"He took a shower" presents a completed action. However, the sense requires an action that was incomplete at the time the doorbell rang (a complete action wouldn't obscure the noise of the doorbell).
"He was taking a shower", on the other hand, implies that the action (taking a shower) wasn't complete at the time the doorbell rang. It was therefore possible for the noise of the shower to obscure the noise of the doorbell.
