Hello, teacher:
Is putting "will" in this sentence OK?
"If you will have your own way, you will have to face the music."
If this sentence is right, what does "will" mean here?

I think the is sentence is OK.
You're right that "will" can be confusing here. I'm interpreting it to mean more than something that is going to happen in the future. A fairly literal meaning could be "If you are going to have your own way, you will have to face the music." But, having seen and heard part of this expression before, I think it means something like:
"If you INSIST ON having your own way..." (my favorite)
"If you ARE DETERMINED TO have your own way..."
"If you MUST have your own way..."
And "face the music" means deal with the consequences (of having your own way). |
