Which would be more appropriate for the blank below, #1 or #2?
If I should be late, please ( ) for me at the station.
1. wait
2. be waiting

Both forms are used by native speakers. The first ("please wait") is by far the more common; the second ("please be waiting") suggests deference in an informal context.
In your example, I would choose "please wait", as this accords with the register of the if-clause.
