Hello, teachers! I have a question.
For the question "What do you do?"
Which is correct in the following two answers?
(1) I am a doctor.
(2) I work as a doctor.
I think that (1) is better than (2), but here I am very confused. The question is asking with "do", not "be-verb (am, are, is)." Why can you say (1)? |

"What do you do?" is very much like "What is your job?" in terms of the information being requested. I think that's why people often answer in the "I am a ________" form. # 2 is not wrong, but # 1 is shorter and, like # 2, answers the INTENT of the question. |
