Hi, Senay
Judging by the two examples you gave, this book is not using standard correct English. "She don't" and "I never said nothing" are not correct. It should be "she doesn't" and "I never said anything." Just a thought: could the book possibly be giving examples of mistakes that people might make?
If the whole book is like this, I think it would be a good idea to try to find another book to study! |

.
Or is it a work of fiction? These sentences represent some AmE subcultural dialects. _________________ "I really do not know that anything has ever been more exciting than diagramming sentences." Gertrude Stein

Some people do speak using double negatives, sometimes in books this can be used to represent stupidity or lack of intelligence. _________________ -Mat |

That was a good point about the book possibly being fiction (rather than grammar). Sometimes that type of speech is just what people learn from others around them who speak that way. It might be characteristic of an area or of a particular group within an area.
But please don't use this book as a model for perfecting YOUR English! |
