Hello

I am unsure how to xplain the grammar in these sentencs.
The red part is what confuse me.

I was shocked to see how ill she was.
Bob was disappointed to hear about the accident.
I was surprised to know how the movie ended.

I think the rule is that an adjective phrase must be followed by an infinitive verb. Is that what is happening here?

The words in quesion may look like the past participles as part of the passive construction, but they are adjectives functioning as the complements.

Why don't you look them up in your dictionary? You can save your and others' time by doing that.

Another hint that they are not in the passive forms is that they are not followed by 'by' as in 'shocked by', 'disappointed by', and 'surprised by'.
