Hi, there.
Today, I'd like to ask you about a message I found in the subway.
The message goes:
Please set your mobile phone to silent mode and refrain from making calls.
Do you make out what the message means?
Are there any grammatical mistakes in the message?
The message sounds kind of awkward to me, though I can't exactly tell why.
Would you explain it to me, please?
I'm looking forward to your replies.
Thanks. |

The message is correct English, a little on the formal side. It means:
Please fix your cell phone so it doesn't make noise when it rings, and don't make any calls. |
