Hello everyone.
My question is about punctuation.
Look at the passages below. The following is a passage from an article about Magritte.
One of his famous paintings is a pipe with the words �Ceci n�est pas une pipe (This is not a pipe)� written under it (2). A friend of his told him, �Of course this is a pipe.� Magritte answered, �Can you smoke this pipe? No, this is not a pipe; this is a picture of a pipe.�
Should a comma have been placed both before and after �Ceci n�est pas une pipe (This is not a pipe)�, because it is a direct quotation?
This may seem a trivial matter to native speakers of English, but it sticks with me as a non-native.
