I've been offered a lectureship at an English-language university in Lebanon to teach English literature at an undergraduate and graduate level. I'm just about finished with my ph.d and they tell me that when I actually have it in hand, they'll bump my salary up to $30,000 USD from my starting salary of $26,000. I'm worried that they're underpaying me, however: I have a masters degree from Oxbridge, as is my Ph.D, and I do have a good amount of undergraduate-level teaching experience. What should I be asking for both in terms of salary, which seems less flexible, but more importantly in terms of benefits? Free apartment? Furniture allowance? They've offered me $1500 relocation allowance, which also doesn't seem like nearly enough.
Thank you! |
