Hello,
I have two sentences here and please tell me why they are that way.
1. Sighing, he opened the book and read.
2. He hung up and sat down discouraged.
Could you explain why sigh and discourage are individually used in the form of V-ing and V-en .

1. AS he was sighing, he opened the book and read.
2. He hung up and sat down as he was discouraged.
Subordinating clauses with such conjuctions as 'as', 'because', 'while', 'when', and so forth are often reduced to participle clauses. |
