Could you give me some advice, please?
Please look at the sentence below. What does "it" refer to? "to get to work" ?
In my opnion, "it" would refer to something like "the location with a lot of greenery". What do you think?
"There's a lot of greenery, but it is inconvenient to get to work." |

'It' refers to 'a lot of greenery' because of the two reasons: 1. 'It is (in)convenient to do something' is a fixed expression. 2. The context of the sentence requires this meaning.
An alternative may be that 'It' refers to 'to get to work'. In other words, 'to get to work' is the real subject of the clause and 'it' is the false subject standing for the real one.
I think the first choice makes more sense. |
