What does "a right of passage" mean below?
Chickenpox, caused by the varicella-zoster virus, used to be a right of passage for children in United States. _________________ Hiromichi |

The correct term would be "rite of passage."
It means an event that you do to signify that you are worthy of going on to a different stage. Chickenpox is a rite of passage because it is an event all kids go through before they head on to being adults. They use the word "used" because nowadays vaccines are stopping the chances of kids getting chickenpox.
