Some kids just got up and said the poems beautifully but withlittle body language or appropriate expression, and *so lost*to kids who kind of "acted out the poem".
Could anyone explain that part?

.
The sentence means that the best performance of poetry was by a child who used facial and hand gestures, like an actor performing the poem's story. The other children just said the words, without moving or making any kind of expression with their faces.

"so" in this case means "thus" or "because of that..."

Another way to write it:
Some kids just got up and said the poems beautifully but with little body language or appropriate expression, and [because they only read the poems], they lost to kids who kind of "acted out the poem."

At first glance I thought it meant *these kids were so lost that...*

Could you use it in another sentence?

Thanks

Brian did not study for the exam, and so failed it.

Tom forgot to look at his gas guage, and so ran out of gas on the highway.

MsD, this is probably a construction you are more likely to read/write than hear/say. (In my opinion.)

Very Happy
actually, in my opion the above sentense just shows the problems of many other people who appreciate a poem.
whie reading a poem aloud, we need passion so that we can understand the poet's feelings. i mean, the voice or the action of reading is unimportant , however the passion is the most important.
