" It is often necessary to use a chemical spray - something which most people would prefer to avoid. "

In this sentence, 'which' is right?

Some books say that only relative pronoun 'that' is used after 'something.'
Please tell me in which situatin 'that' or 'which' is used after 'something.'

The books you are referring to are wrong or outdated. You can use either whic or that as a rrelative pronoun after something as an antecedent.
