Is either #1 or #2, possible for the blank in the passage below?
1. a
2. the

Amsterdam is ( ) lovely capital city of Holland. Its many canals are crossed by four hundred bridges and lined with trees and old red-brick buildings. In the 17th century these were the homes of rich merchants.

I think that "the" is the correct choice here. Holland has only one capital.

Thank you, Nef.

How about this then?
Is either "the" or "a" possible for the blanks below?

1. Do you know Junichiro Koizumi, who is ( ) belligerent prime minister of Japan?
2. Do you think George W. Bush is ( ) religious president of the US?
