Jane Austen has always been considered my role model among the English authors, and P&P is just absolutely unparallel.
Wink English literature or American literature is not the only topic we may discuss here. Actually we want a "global literature", which will help us get a better understanding and a deeper insight of the world we are living in as well as the people we are living with. Probably we just have no idea of what you are talking about, but we will definitely give you a big hand for your introduction. So what is your favorite literary work created by your own culture? Surprised
My favorite one (I'm from China) is "A Dream of Red Mansions"another unrivaled literary work in my eyes. Cool

I like Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman and J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. American classics. Wink

Carol, from which part of China do you come? I'm asking because this name, "Carol", is so different from the chinese names I know. Carol is the name of my sister, by the way.

I'd like you to talk about the book you've mentioned as your favourite one. Does it talk about what exactly? I got curious, I must confess I've never read anything coming from a chinese author. Is there any website in which I could find an on-line version of it?

About American and British Literatura: well, I must confess I'm addicted to British literature: Jane Austen, Virginia Woolf, Henry Miller. On the other hand, there's nothing in American literature that attracts me but Edgar Alan Poe. I've read books from Hemingway ("The old man and the sea", "the sun also rises") and also "The catcher in the rye", mentioned above, but none of them really meant something to me. I don't mean to offend anybody, this is just my opinion.

About literature in Brazil: I would recommend books from Machado de Assis, but I must warn foreigners that his books sometimes are too complex even for brazilians...

Hi.
I like fantasy, so I would recommend you to read Lukianenko's books. They are about fantasy in our ordinary world, in our modern cities. It's really exciting!
I like books which give you an opportunity to study the particular culture at the particular period of time. So, I believe that Tolstoi and Bulgakov wrote this kind of literature. When you read it you're just diving into the epoch they wrote about.
