What does the captioned phrase mean?
Today, America's Memorial Day tends to be more beach-and-barbecue than reflection-and-remembrance. _________________ Hiromichi |

Hiromichi,
Yes, you are correct. But do keep in mind there are many people
who do attend memorial services today. I think its probably more
of a "reflection and remembrance" day for those people who have
had relatives in the military. Most especially those whose relatives
may have died in combat.
But because this holiday is so close to the beginning of summer
and the school semester ends, many people consider it a good
opportunity to go to the beach and/or have a BBQ.
I myself have raised two flags today. U.S. flag and Marine Corps flag.
My father did not die during any war, but he was a marine for 20 yrs.
But I also went out in my kayak for a nice paddle. |
