Hi, there.
Look at the following sentences.
A: Did you wear a trench coat?
B: Did you put on a trench coat?
What is the difference in meaning between these two sentences?
How do you paraphrase these two sentences?
I'm looking forward to your answers.
Thanks. |

'Put on' and 'wear' both mean put on clothing on the body and can be treated as synonymous. 'wear' also means dressed in and 'put on' has this additional connotation of putting on something on something already one is wearing, like the trench coat. |

If you put something on, you might or might not continue to wear it.
For example: I put on a trench coat, but it looked silly on me, so I refused to wear it. |

Yes, there is a tendency to 'put on' accessories', though 'put on' and 'wear' can be interchangeable. |
