Dear Teachers,
1. Is there anything else I can get for you, Sir?
- No. That should be it. Thanks.
- That should be it here means thats enough, right?
2. Jane! Do you want to come to the mall with me?
- I think go is better than come here, right?
3. You really scared the heck out of me.
- What does this mean?
Thanks a million to Teachers,

1) It can mean "that's enough," or "I don't need anything else." In general, in expressions like "That's it," "it" has a meaning of all, everything, finality.
2) Unfortunately for people trying to learn the usage of English "go" and "come," either word is acceptable in this sentence. "Go" might be better, but either go or come in this sentence would be natural. For some reason, English doesn't use go/come as strictly as other languages do -- I know others define them as movement away from / toward the speaker.
3) =You scared me a lot.
"the heck" or "the h3ll" are informal intensifier phrases:
"I don't know what's happening."
"I don't know what the heck is happening." (more emphasis)
Also, other words can be substituted in place of "heck" in the expression "You really scared the heck out of me," such as h3ll, living daylights, bejeezus, cr@p ... |
