The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (usually called just Dante in the English-speaking world), including The Inferno, The Purgatory, and The Paradise, has been translated into many languages, and into English many times.

My favorite version is by John Ciardi, who took the original manuscript and translated it into three-line stanzas with the first and third line rhyming--the closest he could get to Dante's triple rhymes--and with extensive annotation. It is an awesome work of art, but I think The Inferno is the best of the three.

I don't think students read Dante until they are in college, and probably many educated people have not read the Divine Comedy, although they have heard of it. Too bad ... it is so good.

Your English is not so bad! No need to apologize.

Well, we don't have to read it at school... but at college, according to the course, yes, we have.

I've tried to read it once, but it was too much for me...

Same here in Turkey, we learn general terms about the world literature, thus including Dante too, at high school and then according to course we have to,or should,or can read Smile
