In the parentheses of the following sentence, which (has or have?) is correct? or are both used according to the context?
---- the following -----
Jewelry was stolen from a safe in her house. The police (has/have) been searching for a month. |

In the U.S.A., you would use the plural. If it is only one person, then you would say "policeman," "policewoman," "police officer," or even "cop," but not "police." _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
