Which is correct (or both correct) in the parentheses of the following two sentences ? Is such distinguishment between as and like important?
---- the following --------------
1 It's rainy again. I don't like weather (as/like) this.
2 We had a great time (as/like) a family on Christmas. |

The correct answer is "like". Here "like" functions as a preposition meaning "similar to". The adjective phrase "like this" modifies the noun "weather".
2 We had a great time (as/like) a family on Christmas.
The correct answer is "as". Here "as" functions as a preposition meaning "in the capacity of". The adjective phrase "as a family" modifies the pronoun "we".
