Can anybody help me understand this sentence below, please?
"From outside the state, then, and half his thoughts left back at the hotel in his other suit."

Sure.

I can't understand the last sentence.

| I think it means that Clare guesses he is from some other state in the USA, and his mind is not on what he is doing at present, but thinking about something or someone else. |
