Although there are many artistic dancing styles, the most common style which is presented on almost every occasion and has been the identifying sign of the UAE traditions and customs is what is known as the Ayyala.

In this dance, two to four rows of male dancers simulate a battle scene wielding their sticks as swords and moving forwards and backwards alternately signifying victory and defeat. In between them, there are groups of people carrying the drums or Tubool as well as other musical instruments. But the most fascinating act of dancing is the group of females who perform the Naashat where they stand side by side with their right hands on their chests while swaying their long black hair from one side to the other following a rhythmical drum beat.

The Ayyala tradition is eagerly preserved in the UAE by the Ministry of Information and Culture through the directives of H. H. Sheikh Zayed. Generous contributions are made to various traditional folklore groups throughout the country and who are providing the traditional and genuine picture of the UAE customs and traditions through their colorful cultural performances.
