I watched FRIENDS today, and I read some dialogue of it, here is it:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Monica: (kneels with him) Chandler, umm, I want you to take just a minute and I want you to think about how ridiculous this sounds.
Chandler: Yeah, I'm kinda wishing everyone wasn't here right now.
Monica: Honey! Do you know that none of that stuff came from me?! I mean I never said I wanted to have babies and get married right now!
Chandler: Yeah I know, but I was really confused and then I talked to these guys. (Turns to look at Ross and Joey.)
Monica: Who? Two divorces and Joey?!
Ross: Hey!
Joey: She's right y'know.
Ross: Yeah, but still, cheap shot!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear teachers:
what dose "cheap shot" mean in the dialogue? |

A cheap shot is a remark, whether true or false, made to embarrass, denigrate, or humiliate someone unnecessarily. Here, Monica questions Chandler's wisdom in consulting two divorced people and Joey, who is not known for his intelligence but is famous for his promiscuity.
Joey, true to form, agrees that it was not smart to consult him about anything, much less matters of the heart, or the other two. And Ross, who knows that Joey is right, nevertheless is stung by the truth, and calls it a cheap shot.
I didn't see this episode, but I bet it came off pretty funny.
Hope this helps. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

Dear CP, thank you for your amazing explanation! it totally helps me a lot!
yesterday, I told one of my colleagues, who was an English teacher, that I could ask any questions about English here and I was sure that some patient teachers would love to answer my questions. My colleague said:"what? are you sure? oh, we always have some questions about English, but I have never known that we could work out by asking them online! it's a good way to learn english!"
Yes, here is a great place for us to ask English questions, and I really appreciate all teachers here from the bottom of my heart. |

You are certainly welcome. I am sure that everyone who contributes to this excellent site is pleased to know that someone may know a little more about this wonderful but baffling language, after a few moments at the keyboard. Perhaps we will see your colleague's posts soon. The more, the merrier! _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

Not quite: "Two-divorces" refers only to Ross. Monica is talking about only Joey and Ross, not about three people. At that point, Ross had been divorced twice, from Carol before the first season started and from Emily during the fourth season. If I recall correctly, the episode quoted takes place late in the fifth season, before

If you've ever got questions about Friends, post them -- I used to be a big fan of the show, and can still remember quite a bit about it. |

You're right, of course. Mea culpa for not reading the initial post carefully enough. I guess I was thinking that Rachel was divorced, too. Didn't she marry Ross? Wasn't she married and divorced immediately sometime in the past?
Anyway, thanks for the correction. "Friends" is too important to be careless about. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |

She ran out on her wedding to Barry before the first episode of the first season, so I don't think she was actually married. Because of that, she hadn't been divorced in the time period that that episode takes place in. She got married to Ross a few episodes after the episode that RedRose quoted, and they divorced early in the sixth season. |
