Hey

I'm working at an elementary school in Seoul. My curriculum is set but with no guide as to how to teach some of the books. One causing a few problems is called 'Rhythm and Rhyme'....basically it's a book full of rhymes and songs. It's O.K for the start of the class but I have to 'teach' it twice a week to non readers and am struggling to find an activity which allows them to make the most of the language in the song. Any ideas?

Cheers

Here are a few ideas, but I'm not sure they're good or feasible ideas. Smile

If you need to "do more" with the words in the rhyme, can you ask students questions like "What's another word that means the same thing as (one or more of the words in the rhyme)? What's another word that means the opposite of (one or more of the words in the rhyme)? When else might someone say (one or more of the words in the rhyme)? Who would say this? When? Also, is there any way to "act out" the words in the rhyme? Can the students help you make up other rhymes?

I'm thinking of trying to use the rhyme as a starting point for other lessons without going too far afield and getting into trouble for not teaching it.
