Hi, there!
Look at the following sentence.
'Did Nancy enjoy last winter?'
Is this sentence posssible?
In my opinion, this sentence is grammatically wrong.
The reasons are:
1. The word 'enjoy' is a transitive verb, and there is no object in the sentence.
2. The phrase 'last winter' cannot be the object, because 'last ~' phrases usually function as adverbs.
For these reasons, the sentence should be:
#1. 'Did Nancy enjoy herself last winter?' or
#2. 'Did Nancy enjoy the last winter?'
Am I right?
How about the sentence #2?
Can the sentence #2 have a different meaning?
I'm looking forward to your answers.
Thanks. |

I think your sentence is OK.
Your other sentences are OK too.
in #2.) "the last winter" refers to a specific winter of several, but it may not be the one that had just passed at the time of writing.
For example: Nancy spent 10 years in Canada and was happy there, but she did not enjoy the last winter. (And so she moved to Florida a year later.) |
